PrintPal for ChatGPT is a free ChatGPT app made by PrintPal that connects ChatGPT to PrintPal's 3D printing platform through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Once it is connected, ChatGPT can search a community library of printable STL, 3MF and OBJ models, run print-cost, filament, layer-height and volumetric-flow calculators, answer troubleshooting questions with citations from PrintPal's vendor-neutral wiki, and walk you through Arduino and ESP32 build guides.
When the model you want does not exist yet, ChatGPT hands off to PrintPal's AI 3D generator or the AI CAD agent with your prompt already filled in. Everything is free and works without a PrintPal account.

How to add PrintPal to ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors.
- Search the directory for PrintPal and click Connect. If it is not listed for your account yet, open Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode and click Create.
- For a custom app, enter the name PrintPal, the MCP server URL

Do I need a PrintPal account or API key?
No. The PrintPal server works anonymously. An API key from printpal.io/api-keys is only needed if you want ChatGPT to run AI 3D generation itself instead of handing you a link.
What does PrintPal see from my ChatGPT conversation?
Only the inputs ChatGPT sends to a tool, such as a search phrase or the numbers for a cost calculation. PrintPal does not receive your conversation, does not collect personal data and does not use requests for training.
Can I use PrintPal in a Custom GPT?
Yes. Import https://printpal.io/mcp/openapi.json in the GPT builder under Configure, Actions, Import from URL. Each PrintPal tool is also available as a REST endpoint.
Can PrintPal for ChatGPT slice my model or start a print?
No. It does not slice, control printers, place orders or take payments. Use your slicer for that, or the PrintPal plugins for OrcaSlicer and Cura to pull models and calculators into the slicer itself.
