About this video
Photo to 3D printed building
Part 28 of the 3D printing tools you should know series. PrintPal's Architecture to 3D Model Generator turns a photo of a house or building into a 3D model you can print, without any CAD work.
How to do it
- Take a clean photo of the building: straight on or at a slight angle, with the whole facade in frame and as little in front of it (cars, trees, people) as possible.
- Open the Architecture to 3D generator on PrintPal and upload the photo.
- Click Generate and wait for the model to load.
- Download the file, import it into your slicer, and print.
Ideas for what to make
- Housewarming and family gifts: a miniature of someone's home.
- Real estate: closing gifts for realtors to give to buyers.
- Landmarks and souvenirs: famous buildings, churches or your school.
- Side hustle: sell custom house models online from a customer's photo.
Printing tips
- Print small models at 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers to keep windows and roof edges crisp.
- Use supports for overhanging roofs and balconies, or tree supports for organic shapes.
- Find more photo-to-3D tools, like the vehicle and pet figurine generators, in PrintPal tools.
